My research mainly focuses on computational and learning models of visual understanding and other general AI problems. As the founding director of the Human-Cyber-Physical Intelligence Integration Laboratory at Sun Yat-sen University, I have taken responsibility for several research projects and developed cutting-edge technological innovations. My research group conducts more than 400 original technical papers in relevant research fields.  The CS Rankings data (2016-2020) show that in Computer Vision, Sun Yat-sen University ranks in the top 8 in the world mainly because of contributions by my group. My supervised Ph.D. students received ACM China Doctoral Dissertation Award, CCF Best Doctoral Dissertation, and CAAI Best Doctoral Dissertation. Besides, my group has built his distinctive reputation in technology transferring. I had led the R&D Team of SenseTime (A well-known AI unicorn company) and successfully applied the AI algorithms into a series of commercialized products, e.g., person re-identification in smart city applications. I have founded a rising startup company, X-Era Inc., with my research teams, which focuses on developing of a new generation of physical space intelligence engine and creating a new ecosystem of AI applications and vertical industries.
